My Hardwood Floors

I found the hardwood floors friday after looking for the past week. It will be installed in our Living Room/Dining Room combo and in my 20 yr old daughter's bedroom. It is by Shaw which they said was bought from Anderson and said it is the cadillac of the engineered hardwood floors. It is called Vicksburg and the color is called Harvest. The wood is Hickory. They said it is handscraped and distressed by prisoners so no two boards are the same.

Now our entry is only about 4'x4' and currently tile...wondering if I should rip out the tile & have the entry done in the hardwood as well? How will engineered hardwood do in an entry??

It won't be installed for probably another 3-4 weeks but I'll be sure to show you how it looks in my home when it gets installed. I've never had hardwood so I'm excited!

My Home is a Wreck!

Just a quick update on the water damage our home incurred while we were on vacation.
We moved out of our home last friday into a vacation rental. The contractor says the work will probably take 6-8 weeks. The contractors arrived bright and early Monday to pack up our stuff and put it all in a storage facility. Tuesday they started tearing off the damaged drywall and sprayed a mold inhibitor in the walls. Wednesday they started replacing the drywall in areas they knew was no longer wet. Thursday the granite was taken out and the damaged kitchen cabinet & bathroom vanity was removed. Friday the acoustic (popcorn) ceiling was scraped off. That is something we added. Figured it was the perfect time to finally get rid of that ugly popcorn ceiling!!! Yeah!! We also are having the bathtub/shower unit taken out and replacing with a brand new bath/shower unit. The other one was scratched up, biscuit colored, and 17 yrs old...new one is bright white! So since we are changing the bath/shower we are also changing the toilet to a white one instead of the biscuit color. Oh and one more upgrade while we are at it...hardwood floors!! We had tan carpet in our living room/dining room and in our 20 yr old daughter's bedroom, but tired of carpet so we are doing a handscraped rustic hickory engineered hardwood. Now it's time for me to design a couple new custom rugs!!

Anyway, here are a few pics of my tore up home. I had more, but they accidently got deleted...I hate when that happens!!

Paint colors chosen are:
LR/DR walls- SW Kilm Beige
LR/DR ceiling- Divine White (it's the step up on the swatch from Kilm beige)
Alcove accent- SW Fireweed

Kitchen- Is staying SW Clary Sage

Hallway-SW Nomadic Desert
Ceiling-SW Kilm Beige

Bathroom walls- SW Svelte Sage
ceiling- SW Ancient Marble

Daughter's bedroom- Walls are staying gray
Ceiling-SW Natural Tan

I will post more pics as the house starts coming back together.

Moving & Picking Paint Colors

We are moving out today into the vacation rental. Wish the reason was because of vacation! Unfortunately it is not! It is due to the extensive water damage we received while we were on vacation from a water supply line that busted in our newly remodeled kitchen. UGH!!!

The contractors are starting the work on Monday...yeah! They still expect it to take 6-8 weeks, but at least we will be back before the holidays.

So I am changing a few paint colors since they have to paint anyway. I have chosen SW Nomadic Desert for the LR/DR. Do any of you have this color in your home? Here's a photo I found on google of the color.

We currently have that UGLY popcorn acoustic ceiling, so we are taking this time to scrape that off the ceilings...yeah!

I am thinking for the LR/DR ceilings to paint them SW Kilm Beige. It is one up on the color swatch from Nomadic Desert. Here is a photo I found of a celing with SW Kilm Beige. What do ya think??

I think I want to change the paint color in the bathroom and need your help! My 20 yr old daughter mainly uses this bathroom, but it is also the bathroom any guests at our home use. She likes the different shades of green in the bathroom. However it has always kinda bothered me that the green fabric shower curtain is a different shade than the walls. I don't really want to change anything else in the bathroom. Want to stick with green, white/cream, with black as the accent color. So with that in mind what color should I use for the walls (other than beige)?? Any suggestions??

I have the SW paint color pallete, so if you have suggestions...please let me know!!

Update: What do you all think of SW Svelte Sage for the bathroom walls & Sw Ancient Marble for the ceiling??

A Giveaway in Celebration of Our 1 Yr Anniversary!!

September 3rd is the 1 year anniversary of my blog...yippee! Time sure has flown by! I have made so many friends from blogging and have read so many great blogs! It has truly been a pleasure!

In honor of the 1 year anniversary we are having a GIVEAWAY!!! Hmm, what shall we giveaway?? Any suggestions????

Hey we've got an idea!

How about a Custom Rug made especially for the winner?
How does that sound?

In case you don't already know, we are custom rug manufacturers and have been in business for 5 years. Our business is called, "Creative Carpet Design." We specialize in kid's rugs, but adults love our rugs too! In fact, Rhoda from "Southern Hospitality" blog won our last giveaway. This is the rug we custom made for Rhoda.

It was her idea to have the initial inlay done in the zebra print carpet. We had never done an initial inlay with the animal print carpet before, but it came out so good! It has become a popular design that we now offer along with our other custom rugs.

We will let you know tomorrow the details of the giveaway..so come back!!

UPDATE: Regarding the flooding of our home......the insurance adjuster said that there is about $17,000-$20,000 worth of damage. An $8 steel supply line would have prevented all this damage...UGH! We will be moving out of our home into a furnished rental for 6-8 weeks while our home is being repaired. I just Thank God that everything that was ruined is replaceable!

Lots and Lots of Vacation Photos!!

I am posting our vacation pics while waiting for the insurance guy to come estimate the water damage to our home. I figured I better do it now because I'm going to be busy in the next couple weeks, packing things up and moving into a rental while our home is repaired. This is such a bummer!! I hope they get our home repaired before the holidays!!
Just to remind you...we went to Myrtle Beach South Carolina & went for the day to Charleston, SC.

All the photos were taken with my new Canon Powershot SX110-IS. I LOVE IT!! I got it just a few days before vacation.
