Calling all you East Coast Girls or You that are very famillar with the East Coast

Still working on vacation plans...UGH!!! I'm now thinking about flying to Savannah, GA renting a car and traveling up the coast. Thought it would be nice to start in Savannah (never been there and heard it was a charming town) We could go eat at Paula Dean's restaurant, then maybe go to Tybee Island. Then maybe Hilton Head and/or Myrtle Beach,SC the travel on to North Carolina. Stopping where ever we want and staying a day or two before moving on. I have never done this type of vacation and wonder how it would turn out. I also really don't know if there is enough for us 4 to do or see or if the girls will just be saying how bored they are.

So please, tell me does this sound like a good plan?

What are some must see & do's on the east coast (GA,SC, NC)

Hubby was born in Fayetteville, NC but moved to CA when he was a baby so he would really like to visit the state he was born in. I know Fayetteville is not along the coast, but maybe just being in NC will make him happy?!

Thanks for your help!!
Darlene

I've lived around Savannah area for over 40 years. Lady & Sons is nice if you don't mind waiting in a long line to get a table. Don't expect to see Paula she's busy with other things these days. Tybee is the spot they begin filming the new movie with Miley Cyrus Monday. So it's going to be quite hectic out there. Hilton Head is really nice I was there with my girls Wednesday, shopping, they have two Tanger Outlets. I've never been to Myrtle Beach but my oldest daughter went for bachlorette party. Had a blast. I've always wanted to go to the Outer Banks heard it's great. Just not sure what ya'll are looking to do.

Hi Darlene! We just went to Savannah in April and it was the trip of a life time. There is so much to see there that you will love it. Paula Deen's restaurant is worth the trip all by itself. Just be ready to fill up your tummy. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

I live in Myrtle Beach and have vacationed in Savannah several times. We love it there. The tours of the homes and churches will blow you away. Make sure you take the trollie around town because the driver's tell you some awesome history. River Street is a great place at night with artist and musicians on every corner.
Myrtle Beach has been home to me my whole life. I love it and know everyone else will too. There are lots of shows and of course the freestyle amusement park. I hope you have a great vacation!

Savannah for sure!! We stopped for one night on our way down (from NJ) to Disney and absolutely loved Savannah. I wish we'd had more time there. We tried to go to Paula's restaurant, but the wait was 4 hours!!! That wasn't happening with a 2 yr old and 5 mo. old!!!!! Maybe we'll get back there again someday.
Another East Coast place I'd love to go to is the Outer Banks. I have friends who live there. It's so beautiful!!! I hear only good things about it!

Myrtle Beach is good for lots of different kinds of entertainment - not called the Grand Strand for nothing. Family-oriented entertainment and beautiful beach. Savannah for history and beautiful old buildings. A great example of early urban planning. Try Charleston too. Lovely walking tour (or take the horse drawn carriage), view the Battery and see Ft. Sumter (started the Civil War of the War of Northern Aggression - depending on your viewpoint), can tour a lot of the old homes and gardens - just a great place to visit.

The Outer Banks of NC are great but they're isolated. You get there by ferry or by bridge near the VA line. Kitty Hawk area is crowded and touristy. Head down to the Hatteras area and it's more isolated and less kid-oriented. You can reach Ocracoke only by ferry and it's really isolated but a beautiful beach area. If you like history go see the outdoor drama "The Lost Colony" in Manteo. Stay inland along the coast and you might enjoy Wilmington, NC. Go further inland to Fayetteville and you'll find some interesting military museums around Fort Bragg. Go about an hour further inland to the capital city, Raleigh, and there's a really interesting Nature Museum, history museum, great restaurants, colleges and the Raulston Arboretum, flea markets and shopping.

My vote goes to the Outer Banks of NC! We go there every year and absolutely love it. But, it's very low-key, not a lot to do. There are several lighthouses to see, and you can climb to the top of a few of them. When I go to the beach though, I just want to sit in the sand and watch the ocean, so it's perfect for me. Myrtle Beach is VERY busy. Too much shopping to be done, not enough beach time. But where ever you all choose to go, I hope you have a great time!

I'm headed to Tybee on Saturday with my family for vacation. I think that sounds like a wonderful vacation plan and I'd love to take that trip myself. Driving up the east coast and visiting the different beaches would be heavenly. If you visit The Lady & Sons, just go early, put your name on the list, then walk around Savannah. There's a million shops and so much to see. Especially, if you've never been. Hop over to my blog. I've got a couple of girls that I read who live in Savannah or on Tybee. You can check out their blogs and maybe get some good info. One rents cottages on Tybee. I've stayed in them before and they are absolutely gorgeous.

I lived in NC for 5 years and highly recommend visiting the Biltmore House. It is worth the drive and is incredible!! Here's a link for the house: http://www.biltmore.com/
It really is amazing and on the tour you get to see the first indoor pool, amazing furniture and elaborate decoration. You also can tour the gardens and stables.

Also, the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC is beautiful and you can stop at the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock, they are quaint, have great shopping and restaurants!

Here are my thoughts on this vacation, you sort of can't go wrong! I've never been to Savannah (always wanted to) but have heard nothing but GREAT things. If you're in Savannah, you must go the short distance to Charleston. It is DIVINE. Charleston has some of the best restaurants, shopping, sightseeing/history AND beaches! I think you get it all. I lived near Virginia Beach for 5 years so we frequented the Outer Banks and it's a great place to go IF you love the beach and relaxing, which we do. To me, it's a perfect family vacation because you're bonding and relaxing not constantly running and doing. If you go to the Outer Banks, I highly recommend Duck. The "cottages" are beautiful, the beach is my favorite and it's lovely. Good luck, your family sounds wonderful so I'm sure whatever will be a happy time for all!
