The Reason for the Season

Melissa from The Inspired Room is hosting a "Reason for the Season" link share. She is asking how you incorporate the "meaning of christmas" into your christmas decor and/or festivities.

Our children were not taught to believe in Santa Claus. Instead we wanted them to know that we celebrate Christmas in remembrance of Jesus' birth and that we give gifts to each other like the wisemen brought gifts to baby Jesus in Bethlehem.

We have a birthday cake on Christmas that says, "Happy Birthday Jesus" and we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

We also always go to church on Christmas eve. We take communion and sing Christmas carols.

What a great idea! I bet your kids love it and it helps keep the focus where it should be. I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a huge file of pictures on my computer I use for inspiration! (your below post) Great minds think alike :) You kept some great ones~I love them.

Beautiful Candle Holders....and I love the way your family celebrates the holiday! Sounds REALLY nice!

I have a combination of secular and non-secular Christmas decorations....but I always get a great deal of pleasure setting up my manger scenes. I'll be sure to get some pics up of those on the blog. Have a blessed day!

I love the Birthday Cake for Jesus idea. Really helps kids picture the whole reason for celebrating and for whom all the festivity is about!

PS. If anyone is interested in those candle holders in the photo, they are available through DaySpring...there is a button on my blog with a link and a promo code! They are super cute, they sent me some as a gift and I can tell you they are beautiful!

Thanks for sharing your ideas!
Blessings,
melissa

Our family does the same thing! We even go as far as to sing happy birthday to Jesus!

Love the candles! Being a preachers kid I was raised to go to church on Christmas Eve also. My father still does this in his small church now. He retired for 3 months and then came out of retirement to a small church that did not have a minister. So he still does this service on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
