I am trying to find 2 night stands for our master bedroom and really fighting the urge to make all the furniture match my new mahogany chest of drawers I got last week. (Click Here to See)
I have had a tendency in the past to make everything very symetrical and very matchy matchy. That's boring so I'm trying to break out of my normal tendency to match everything.
I just don't know if I like 2 unmatching/unsymetrical night stands. Maybe this is too much of a stretch for me at this point, not sure.

(update 1/20/2010 ): sorry I didn't mention it before, but this is not my bedroom...just one I found to look at to see if I liked the unmatching/unsymetrical night stands & to get your opinions.
What do ya think?
Do your night stands match??

I believe the round needs to be larger and would then be more in proportion w/the 2nd table. I actually don't like matching nightstnds, so this look works for me.
Mine do match with the beautiful dresser we got, however we didnt get the matching bed (I know, crazy). I have schooling on design and thats one thing my professors made abundantly clear: do not get matchy matchy. So We are getting-eventually- an Iron bed. I love the nightstands that are different and would love to change one of mine for a mirror one.
Our nightstands match. Like you, I am very matchy matchy and can't help it. Although having two that do not match would be cool, but I could never do that.
I'm not a fan of anything too matchy-matchy, and that includes nightstands (except in very contemporary, clean-lined rooms ... then, for some reason, I like it). However, the example you show is a bit much for me. I feel like they should have a relationship to one another, whether it be in scale, materials, or feel.
My nightstands are just two side tables I got from Bombay before they closed. At $49.00 a piece during one of their table sales, I couldn't resist. Maybe the console table is too long for that space for you. It might not throw you off as much if you went with a similar shape, but a little shorter.
I only have one, that came with the bedroom set so it matches but if I ever get another one...nope it won't match.
I LOVE your bedroom!
Beautiful the way it is!!
Mine don't match. Actually I have an antique secretary on one side and a table on the other.
Nightstands do NOT match. We have different needs!...and even different light sources on our sides of the bed. I love your room, and the paint color!
Our nightstands do match but I'm looking to change them out. The new ones don't necessarily have to match but I don't want one twice as big as the other as in the photo. I think the table on the left is just to big for my liking. It would look nice behind a sofa though.
Ours match but the bedroom isn't big enough or shaped in a way that allows you to see them both at the same time! xx
Hi Darlene...just stopped by for a visit this evening. I guess I'm sort of symetrical. I don't particularly care for this bedroom but I don't think we have to be all matchy, matchy either. I think the porportions are a bit "off" in this room. The sofa table just looks a bit out of place in here to me...at least serving as a "nightstand". Not a fan of the round peg legs anymore either in a master bedroom...too flimsy. I do think a couple of chests or a chest and a nightstand/table of approximately the same size would look better.
Maybe it's all of those big pictures that make me uncomfortable. I like my bedroom to be a place of peace and calm, not so stimulating that my mind can't rest.
I only have one at the moment but Im looking for another. I dont think they have to match but they have to "go"..you know. It's one of those things you know it when you see it. I just have not found it yet.
Thanks for the sweet comment too~
We only have room for one nitestand Darlene.
I do wish we had two. I would want them to match though. I do like the unmatched look as well.
Sorry...I guess I was no help. He!
Love the room. I was always a matchy matchy girl, but in the last few years, I've grown to love the eclectic look. I like the different shapes on the sides of your bed now. I think it makes it interesting.
I like to use two different nightstands, but ensure that they compliment and balance each other. I really enjoy mixing and matching. That being said...just got married and the new hubby already had nice bedroom furniture. And it all matches! What's a woman to do?! Enjoying your blog...will follow and be back!
